Goto, Bruno Tomio & Leonor Costa Maia. Glomerospores: a new denomination for the spores of Glomeromycota, a group molecularly distinct from the Zygomycota. Mycotaxon 96: 129 - 132. 2006. ABSTRACT: The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are grouped into the Glomeromycota phylum. However, the names used for the spores formed by these fungi are not clear, being based on morphological characters, some of which can be shared by fungi in separate phyla (Glomeromycota and Zygomycota - Endogonales), due to adaptative convergence. Considering also that all other phyla of fungi have their own characteristic spore types, with unique names, we propose a denomination to be used only for the spores of Glomeromycota.
