Simmons, Emory G. Alternaria themes and variations (310-335). Species on Malvaceae. Mycotaxon 88: 163 - 217. 2003.

ABSTRACT: A continuation of a series of papers primarily on Alternaria, in this instance for phaeodictyosporic taxa described from hosts/substrates in the Malvaceae. Of the approximately 41 names published validly or invalidly for this group (1838 to date), 13 are retained for identifiable taxa in Alternaria and Stemphylium. Of these, 4 presented as spp. nov. are A. anodae on Anoda cristata; A. hibiscinficiens on Hibiscus sabdariffa; A. malvacearum on Abutilon theophrasti; A. sidae on Sida fallax; and 5 comb. nov. are A. hibiscina on Abelmoschus esculentus; A. malvae-vulgaris on Malva vulgaris; A. spadicea on Abelmoschus esculentus; S. gossypicola on Gossypium herbaceum; and S. nigricans on Gossypium herbaceum.
