ABSTRACT: Current morphological and molecular research supports segregation of Gymnopus and Rhodocollybia from Collybia. Recent taxonomic studies with neotropical agarics to which the genus name Collybia has been applied led to the examination of several type specimens. Diagnostic micromorphological characteristics were used to assess taxonomic placement of each type. Five new combinations under Gymnopus are proposed.
