ABSTRACT: During a study of plant pathogens as potential biological control agents of invasive Carduus and other thistles in the USA, a new species of Microbotryum, M. silybum, was discovered on Silybum marianum from Greece. A key to the seven Microbotryum species on Compositae is presented.
