ABSTRACT: A new hyphomycete, Eleutheromyces longispora, isolated from a decaying basidioma of Trametes versicolor is described. The fungus is characterized by the pycnidial conidia that are significantly longer than those of previously described species of the genus and possess apical-appendages with a swollen and slightly thick-walled basal part. On potato dextrose agar (PDA), pycnidial conidia of E. longispora usually become two-celled by forming a transverse septum before germination. Conidia of the Hyphozyma morph develop not only from the germ tubes but also directly from the main bodies of pycnidial conidia. The conidiation is usually sympodial but occasionally annellidic. Young colonies are mucoid on PDA but sometimes form patches of aerial mycelium containing many cylindrical conidia that develop on sympodially elongating conidiogenous cells. These conidia secede, leaving prominent scars on the conidiogenous cells. This type of conidiation does not occur in other species of the genus.
