| Udagawa, Shun-ichi & Shigeru Uchiyama. Acanthogymnomyces, a new genus of gymnothecial Ascomycetes with setae and sulcate ascospores. Mycotaxon 76: 411-418. 2000. ABSTRACT: Acanthogymnomyces terrestris gen. et sp. nov., a gymnothecial ascomycete from Japanese soil, is described and illustrated. It is characterized by brownish ascomata with numerous long straight setae, cylindrical to pyriform asci and hyaline to pale-colored, oblate ascospores with an equitorial rim and a sulcate ornamentation. The fungus is tentatively accommodated in the Eoterfeziaceae. A new combination, A. princeps (Spiromastix princeps Udagawa et Uchiyama), is proposed. KEYWORDS: ascomycetes, soil fungi, systematics
