ABSTRACT:   Ten subcultures were derived from a single axenic base culture of Saprolegnia for testing to determine whether or not character state distributions of four taxonomically important sexual characters differed statistically from the base culture and from each other. Results revealed that eight of the eleven cultures differed significantly from at least one other with respect to two characters thus could be identified as different species.
