web - netscape

Well, I guess everyone at some point has to deal with Netscape 4.x problems. According to the visitor statistics that we are able to gather, 5% of our website users have used the site using Netscape 4.x. The rest are using Internet Explorer...of the IE users, over half are using IE 6.0. Our site uses Cascading Style Sheets, and unfortunately Netscape 4.x and other OLD browsers do not interpret it well--I'm tweaking the site to enable people using older browsers to see the site better, but it will never look the same as it does for everyone else....

web - cumulative author index

I discovered a few anomalies in the cumulative author index...still working out some of the kinks! Thinking that perhaps that file should be broken up into several smaller indices, say A-G, H-N, O-Z.

web - fixing domain called ww1

I received several helpful comments about broken external links [I will fix them!] and to typographical errors. Thanks for the comments! I also received a long long list of broken links that alerted me to an error by our hosting company; apparently the URL "ww1.mycotaxon.com/fungi/" was created as a virtual domain by our hosting company, and although mostly the site worked no matter which URL you entered, neverthless when it was spidered by other applications it appeared to be full of broken links.

If anyone out there is linking to "ww1.mycotaxon.com/fungi/" you will find that the URL is no longer working. Please update your links to "www.mycotaxon.com"

new mycotaxon website

The new Mycotaxon site was launched on 01.XI. 02. November 1, 2002.

The site now has:
--a consistent look across all pages, including the abstracts
--a new navigational header for access to the top level areas
--a new "breadcrumbs" trail to indicate to the user where they are in the site hierarchy
--a search box on every screen
--abstracts, when available, are now linked to the Cumulative Index for Authors
--the home page has an area for editing news and special pull-out features

Still to do:
--many of the external links, to individuals on the board and previous editors, need to be updated
--currently the site has a fixed width and fixed font size...I would like to accomodate the ability for end-users to enlarge the text, but have a few minor tweaks to make before I can do that...
